Overall, things went well. I'm not exactly about to flip the bird at my day job... but I sold a bunch of mugs and had a fun time. A few things I learned...
1) People around Moscow, Idaho really love octopuses***. I'd positioned my raku vase with the Enteroctopus dofleini design on the front of my table... and the thing literally functioned like a tractor beam. Passers-by would lurch and stutter and reverse their path, fondling the vase like it was their beloved pekinese (or any other nameless fondle-worthy thing).
I also had several people refuse to buy anything once my octopuses were sold out.
***Yes- the plural of 'octopus' is 'octopuses'. After a drawn out argument with an English major and a trip to the dictionary, I had to concede defeat. Still... some things are technically correct, but... uninspired.
Overall, the consensus seems to be that round is preferable to flat, that an inner 'trigger' piece (like the one on the picture) is a good thing, and that a giving the thumb a nice, grippy place is essential.

- Several other hairy-faced odds and ends of questionable culture and continence.
