We had a smooth flight. It's always grand to see the football stadiums glowing like alien lozenges as you drift over the mountains near Quito- so many subtle differences in the very aspect of that city.
We're staying at the lovely Posada Maple. A question... why are South American accommodations always so charming compared to anything in the USA? Bright colors, quirky little stairs, passages and decks everywhere, a riot of plant-life. Enormously endowed statues of nymphs in the corners. None of it's up to code, I suspect... but who cares?
I was forcibly struck with how addicted we are to the internet... students were running about like decapitated chickens, trying various nooks and crannies in search of a connection. Worried mothers! Anyhow, we're off to the Center of the World museum and other delights shortly. Hasta luego!
