I'd like to throw out an aggressive plug for my friend's awesome book (in stores as of this past week).
On the surface, this is a memoir about Chris's years hucking pulaskis across the trails systems of Glacier Park, Denali, and other savage corners of the wild beyond (I use 'savage' in the most loving sense).
Chris is a rare confluence of poet, sociologist, ecologist, and muskeg dreamer, however. This is exceptional, wise, beautiful prose (and funny as hell in places). Particularly recommended if you're an ex-Wilderness Canoe Base compadre, a paddling buddy, or a partner in science.
Don't take my word for it... she's got David James Duncan, Scott Russell Saunders, and William Kitteridge raving on the dust jacket...
